Fabio Patrone

Biography

Fabio Patrone was born in Genoa, Italy in 1988. He got his Bachelor Degree in Telecommunication Engineering in 2010 and his Master Degree in Telecommunication Engineering in 2013 at the University of Genoa. He got his Ph.D. at the Satellite Communications and Networking Laboratory (SCNL) with a thesis on routing and scheduling algorithms in Satellite Delay and Disruption Tolerant Networks (DTNs).

Currently, he is an Assistant Professor.

His main research activities concern Satellite and DTN networks and cybersecurity, in particular:

  • design of Routing, Scheduling, and Congestion Control algorithms for Satellite Communication (SatCom) networks;
  • study of integration solutions between SatCom and terrestrial networks within the 5G framework, exploiting new networking paradigms such as Software Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Function Virtualization (NFV);
  • study of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions based on satellite/aerial networks.
  • design of Machine Learning (ML)-based solutions to apply to cybersecurity problems, such as ML-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)
